Sugary Drinks and Food Stamps


Recently the State of NY sought permission  “from the USDA to ban the use of food stamps to buy sugar-sweetened drinks in NYC as part of a government effort to battle obesity.” With almost  40% of NY City children in K-8 overweight or obese, and some neighborhoods having rates as high as 50%, Governor Paterson and Mayor Bloomberg have asked for a two year ban to study the impact.
